bar stars
Now there’s one more super-stylish reason to venture into the gaybourhood: 1181, the sleek bar just opened by modern architects David Battersby and Heather Howat.
From the cool cork walls and polished concrete floors, to the long, long bar and buttery leather drink menus, to the massive steel bathroom sink and exposed light bulbs, it’s like nothing else in town.
The gay bar references are crafty (the glass entrance is frosted to hip level so you can only see who’s walking in from the waist down, and there are back-lit images of Ken dolls under the bar,) but the crowd is as well mixed as the drinks.
Ask Bradley to muddle up one of his delicious fresh strawberry and mint concoctions, and sit back, sip, and wonder: why aren’t there 10 more of these places in town?
Watch this space.
