fashion flick
We confess: we were first in line to see The Devil Wears Prada, the new comedy based on former Vogue assistant Lauren Weisberger’s clever roman-a-clèf. All in the name of research, of course.
And here’s the skinny: funny, sartorial, and sweet, with excellent casting (you’ll love Meryl Streep as the cutting editrix of Runway magazine) and a veritable candy store for those with a fashion sweet tooth.
All of the iconic fashion items have cameos: Marc Jacobs handbags, Hermès scarves, Jimmy Choo shoes, not to mention appearances by designer Valentino and models Gisèle Bundchen and Heidi Klum.
Stanley Tucci is hilarious as the affected art director, Anne Hathaway is lovely as the earnest assistant-to-the-editor Andy, and the editorial antics are highly accurate (though not even slightly OTT by fashion industry standards). It’s the ultimate summer girlfriend flick with Patricia Field wardrobe styling to die for.
Now we just need to find a way to get to that costume department sample sale!
