Stop the presses!

But not the wine presses. Canada’s first sake winery has just opened on Granville Island.

Bottled under the house label “Osake,” we love the premium black labeled Genshu sake ($32) that tastes like lychees and Asian pear.  And the unfiltered, cloudy, blue-labeled Nigori style ($25) is very de rigeur.

Made in small batches from Japanese sake rice, using no preservatives and traditional Japanese presses, premium sakes like these, drunk cold in a white wine glass, are the perfect twist on the summer sipper.
