10 THINGS WE LOVE ABOUT CIBO

The new Cibo Trattoria at the Moda Hotel has finally opened and in the interest of due diligence, we ordered everything on the menu. Herewith, our favourite things.

10. That it's helmed by nimble young ex-London chef Neil Taylor who is a huge breath of fresh air in this city's Italian dining scene.

9. Lofty ceilings, original red mosaic floors, a grand white marble entrance and floating fireplace.

8. Full flavours that come from broths (brodos) rather than sauces, so everything is light and bright and big-city fabulous.

7. The crispy polenta that disappeared almost as fast as the deep-fried courgette blossoms (so delicate they need to be picked at night).

6. Handmade pastas like spinach-ricotta ravioli and the English pea and mint risotto that would convert even a committed carnivore.

5. Ling cod and salmon that were cooked to crispy perfection.

4. Full-flavoured olive oil (30 were tasted before they made their choice) to accompany bread made with imported Italian flour.

3. Oversized pop-art inspired silk screens that bring to mind Les Negresses Vertes.

2. Custom music soundtrack to keep the vibe groovy right through dessert.

1. That it's kitty corner to the Orpheum Theatre, so we won' have to subsist on potato chips at the next concert we attend.
