Go tweedy, but not in a grandma way. Think high-waisted, wide-legged pants with a raspberry heel. Tweed is also right for night (even Vogue agrees).
Get Rich Quick! As in high-pigment, saturated colours and jewel tones (sapphire, ruby, emerald). Mix a bright satin dress with a motorcycle jacket or denim.
Roll with it. Roll up sleeves and cuffs (but not both at once, please!).
Raid the Boyfriend's Closet, especially if he's Chuck Bass or Brad Pitt. Boyfriend blazers and slouchy, beat-up Levis are de riguer with Converse Chucks and a fitted T.
Gypsy Rose charm bracelets and belts, gold coins necklaces—go gypsy caravan chic with gold brocade, floral velvet, fringed suede, layers and patchwork. And if it's all Gucci? Lucky you.

Gumboots on weekdays. Trust us: wear them to work and you'll get asked out for drinks by the man of your dreams. Call it footwear karma. Which leads us to:
Supremely architectural footwear. Those 7-inch Louis Vuitton platforms look cool in the mags—and that's where they should stay.
Dohti pants (a.k.a. MC Hammer pants): even dressed up in satin, they're still a trick to pull off—even for Naomi Campbell.
Lace or Disgrace? Black lace is a key trend for fall (think Chanel, Prada) but cheap lace can look Madonna wannabe before you can say Like a Virgin.
