ALL BOOKED UP

At 44 million words and 32 volumes, the Encyclopedia Britannica is no short story.

But Esquire editor A.J. Jacobs resolves to read the entire set of the leather bound books, from a-ak to Zywiec, in his book, The Know-It-All.

Bored of the pop-culture clutter in his head and surrounded by intellectual giants (including his brilliant father and genius brother-in-law), he wades through the massive amount of information, battling fatigue, skepticism and serious self-doubt—all the while preparing for parenthood.

Jacobs chronicles his journey with humorous musings on EB entries and his attempts to work his newfound knowledge into every day life. Though he’s trying to become the smartest person in the world, Jacobs never comes across like the know-it-all you’d hate to get stuck with at a party.
