A New Latitude

A New Latitude
The owners of the acclaimed RainCoast Café in Tofino have moved back to the big city and brought some of the island's best seafood with them.
Latitude is the name of their stylish new resto located at Main and 16th. Dressed by the same interior designers behind other Main-stays The Cascade Room and Habit, the space is replete with clean lines of wood, concrete and marble that breeds an atmosphere of relaxed cool. Like the vibe, the food is smooth on the palette. We devoured both small plates we ordered—the Socca stuffed with hand-peeled shrimp, sautéed greens, avocado crema and radish sprouts ($11), and scallops on masa pancakes with fresh cut guacamole ($11)—and plan to return for the signature dish of duck breast with chocolate orange pan sauce, sweet potato flan and chayote squash ($19).
If real latitude is what you're after, it's 49° 15' 22" N.
