Not Your Regular Joe

Not Your Regular Joe
Tomorrow in Toronto, the newest Joe Fresh Style collection walks the LG Fashion Week runway. We sat down with the man behind the megabrand, Joe Mimran, while in Vancouver launching the label’s new flagship to talk fashion, style and what’s in store for Spring 2011:
Who is your fashion muse?
Joe Mimran: My wife [Pink Tartan's
Kimberly Newport-Mimran]. She’s got incredible style and she’s just in
love with fashion. It’s quite an advantage when you live with somebody
who’s also in the business, creating clothes, working really hard to
design with a lot of integrity and believes in what she’s doing.
What key fashion or beauty trend right now do you think every woman should try?
JM:
This tough girl thing that’s been happening. I think that look is quite
sexy. There’s a casualness to it that really works for our clothes. The
mix of cargos and sequins, or flight jackets with something very sexy,
I love that juxtaposition. And the narrow silhouette is so flattering
and easy to wear.
If women want to freshen up their style, where should they start?
JM:
I think you have to have a great foundation—the right jean, the right
outerwear piece. Accessories play a very important role, and how you
mix the high and low. Ultimately though, I don’t think you should
dictate. The thing about someone with great style is they have an
individuality about them, and they know what works for them.
What fall/winter items are must-haves for Vancouverites?
JM:
Faux fur and anything embellished. For outerwear, the flight jacket and
our packable down, which I think for Vancouver is perfect because it
never gets too cold and that thing is like a feather, roll it up and
put it in your purse.
Tomorrow is your show at LG Fashion Week in Toronto, what can we expect from Joe Fresh Style next season?
JM:
Spring 2011 will be quintessentially Joe Fresh. It’s going to be bows,
sequins with lots of shirt interest and preppy looks that are brought
together in an interesting way.
