Happy Pink Palette in a Family’s South Carolina Home

Todd and Caycee Hewitt built their home from the ground up on an empty lot, working with David Weekley Homes, and then incorporated custom built-ins and other details to fit their needs on the interior.
The custom window seats in the living room were added later. “I know most people do built-ins around a fireplace, but I really wanted to do window seats,” Caycee says. “I can picture the kids sitting there and reading at night as they get older.”

Caycee loves the color pink and uses it in almost every room in the house. “And luckily my husband didn’t fight me too much on that one,” she says with a laugh. Here in the living room, a pink area rug anchors the space while magenta throw pillows accent two neutral tufted sofas. A consistent palette of white and pops of other vivid colors, including varying shades of pink, brightens each space.

Caycee is pictured here in her home office, where she writes about fashion, food and fitness on her blog, Hanging With the Hewitts.
“I knew the look I wanted when I moved in here,” Caycee says. “I pretty much had it all decorated three months after we moved in.” The blogger says her site was motivation for finishing the project as quickly as possible, since many of her photos are taken in and around the house. The resulting look is fun and feminine, classic yet trendy.

Along her office wall, a clothing rack made out of copper pipes that she found on Etsy displays clothes she plans to post about during the week. “Boxes come in. I steam the clothes and hang them up there,” Caycee says.
At the entryway of the house, a simple dining room keeps things fresh and inviting. “I knew I wanted something light, bright and airy when you entered the house,” Caycee says. “I originally intended to add a little bit of color, but ended up loving all the white and neutral tones.”

The kitchen palette was kept light and bright as well, and the natural light is great for photographing food-related posts for Caycee’s blog.

There were a few hiccups throughout the building process, such as when the wrong countertop was installed. “They didn’t have what I wanted anymore, so the company ended up letting me pick out a much nicer marble that I wouldn’t have been able to afford otherwise.” Caycee went with brass for her faucet and added globe pendant lighting with a brass finish to match.

To keep things interesting in the all-white space, Caycee decided to mix things up with a fun herringbone backsplash. “I have always been drawn to more traditional tiles,” she says. “Laying them in a herringbone pattern gives them more character and a little modern twist.”
Caycee loves that their family’s clear acrylic chairs are both comfortable and easy to clean.

On the second story, a playful bonus room serves as the space where the family spends the most time. “We do it all up there,” Caycee says. “We paint, watch movies and play the Wii.”

Caycee had more custom built-ins installed upstairs.
Built-in cabinets help contain the kids’ toys to keep things clutter-free, and floor cushions provide fun and movable seating options.

Caycee loves how the master bedroom gets a lot of natural light. “It’s airy and clean,” she says.

Caycee uses this oversize silver-framed floor mirror to take selfies for fashion-related blog posts.
An all-white master bath creates a soothing sanctuary. Caycee chose wall sconces with touches of brass as a warm accent color.
A large tub provides a getaway spot for the mother of two. “I take a bath every single night in there,” Caycee says. “It’s one thing I would feel lost without, for sure.”
The contractor who did the custom closets left the country for a monthlong trip the day they closed on the house, leaving the family without a closet for the first several weeks they spent in their new home. “It worked out because it gave me time to figure out exactly what we needed,” Caycee says. This custom closet is attached to the master bath.
Backpacks and lunch boxes are stowed away in the custom storage Caycee had added in the laundry room.
In her son Carson’s room, twin beds are perfect for a sleepover with friends or for sharing with his sister when one of the siblings is feeling afraid of the dark. “It works out because I never have to make Taylor’s bed,” Caycee says with a laugh.

Daughter Taylor’s room is decorated in pretty pale pinks. The desk used to be in Caycee’s room when she was a young girl. She changed the color from cherry red to a clean white. “I’m not really a sentimental person but I did want her to have one piece from my room,” Caycee says.

Five-year-old Taylor prefers to wear dresses, and, when given the chance to pick out her own clothes, she never fails to reach for the sequined costumes and tulle skirts hanging by her window.
Outside, a small upstairs deck features a cozy sectional.

When it comes to the exterior of the home, Caycee says she had three requirements: It had to be white, the front porch needed to be long enough to hold four rocking chairs and it had to have copper gas lanterns.
The couple decided to raise their family on Daniel Island because of the community’s good schools and because they loved the neighborhood. “I just love the small town feel of it,” Caycee says. “You can bike or walk anywhere, and that’s what we do on the weekends. I feel like we maybe could have gotten more house elsewhere, but I wanted it to be here.“

Instead of investing in a larger back porch or deck, the couple decided to have a big patio installed where they could have a fire pit. When the crew was pouring the concrete, Carson and Taylor got to throw the shells in it for the finished tabby look.
