A Warm and Bright Laundry Room to Welcome a Family Home

Who lives here: A family with three daughters
Location: Minneapolis
Size: About 150 square feet (14 square meters)
Designer: Sarah Martin of Beautiful Chaos Interior Design & Styling
When this family of five in Minneapolis comes home, it usually enters the house through the garage, which leads directly to the laundry room, rather than going in through the front door — especially during cold Minnesota winters. So creating a warm welcome home was key to this laundry room renovation by designer Sarah Martin. “Creating a happy feel when you walk in from the garage helps set the tone for the rest of the house,” she says.
To bring a warm glow to the laundry room, Martin painted the lower cabinets Vintage Gold by Sherwin-Williams, a cheerful golden yellow that the designer selected to evoke the warmth of the sun. These cabinets feature distressed white metal hardware that Martin found at a local shop.

The cabinet wall is covered in a narrow marble subway tile. The new upper cabinets are painted white and feature decorative cutouts designed by Martin. These cabinets have distressed green metal hardware in the shape of birds, a favorite animal of the homeowners.
